How does dissolved carbon dioxide affect ph?
It lowers the pH. Dissolved CO2 will cause a weak acid (carbonic acid) to form in solution. Acids added to a solution lowers the PH of that solution. The CO2 dissolves in water, and some of it forms carbonic acid. The formation of acid lowers the pH.
