How does taxonomy help scientists?

Topics: Science

Martina Joseph

Taxonomy helps us understand how soon organism evolved from other organisms and if two or more organisms have a common ancestor. Taxonomy shows the relationships of organisms in a more or less objective manner. Within each group, you can assume that organisms within the same species are more closely related to one another than they are to organisms in different species. Species in the same genus are closer than species in different genera, and so on up.
