How does the foot function during the gait cycle?
At the contact phase of gait (heel strike) the motion of the foot is that of pronation. This is seen by the eversion, abduction and dorsiflexion of the calcaneus. It is a complex motion between the talus and the calcaneus (subtalar joint).
