How does the location of Poland explain why it's government was closely tied to that of the former Soviet Union?

Soviet Union Poland is a country in Eastern Europe bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east; and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north. Its government was closely tied to the former Soviet union because they were neighbors.
