How does the nfl decide whether a team is afc or nfc?
The NFL began play in 1920 although it was know as the APFA, All Pro Football Association, until 1922. In 1961 another league emerged known as the AFL. The NFL and AFL badly hurt each other fighting for fans and players. Finally they merged in 1970. The NFL became the NFC and the AFL the AFC, both under the NFL. ChaCha!
