How does the solar system work?
The gravity of the sun is so strong that it pulls in all the other objects in the solar system (planets), while at the same time the planets are moving so fast that they try to fly out of the gravitational pull of the sun. These competing forces form an equilibrium that allows the planets to stay in orbit around the sun.
