The Grapes of Wrath When the Joads get work picking cotton they are able to earn a regular, decent wage, but those workers who can't afford cotton picking sacks must buy them on credit, indebting them to the landowners. However, the Joads have a boxcar to live in with another family, and they can afford food and clothing. Ma is even able to buy a box of Cracker Jacks for the youngest children. ChaCha again soon!
