How is Mexico City's status in Mexico similar to that of New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C?
All these cities have high, medium and lower class neighborhoods. The equivalent to New York's slums are the Mexican 'ciudades perdidas'. Also, all have the same main problems such as heavy traffic, air and water pollution, and high crime indexes.

About Washington D.C.
Washington D.C, which was previously referred to as the District of Columbia, is now also called Washington, the District or just D.C. Washington D.C. is known as our nation's capital, and is not actually part of any U.S. state, so it is directly managed by the federal government. Another city within D.C. is Georgetown, named after the late George Washington. With Georgetown and the other areas within the District, it was placed under a unified government by the act of Congress in 1871.
