How is slope related to right triangles on the coordinate plane?
The trigonometric functions can be defined in terms of the rise, run, and slope of a line segment relative to some horizontal line. The line segment is the equivalent of the hypotenuse in the right-triangle, and when it has a length of 1 it is also equivalent to the radius of the unit circle.
