In February 2009, a 200 pound pet chimpanzee went crazy after its owner asked Charla Nash to help lure it back into her home. The animal ripped off Nash's hands, nose, lips and eyelids. The chimp was shot and killed by police. Charla has been evaluated for a potential face transplant at Brigham and Women's Hospital. It would help her smell, breath and eat, while a hand transplant would help make her be more independent.
