How long can you collect unemployment?
Federal law says that during each one-year claim period you can collect the equivalent of 26 weeks of total unemployment benefits. During the current recession there have been measures taken by the states and the federal government to extend the period of unemployment benefits to workers who have use up regular unemployment insurance benefits.
