About Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus, October 31, 1451-May 20, 1506, was an explorer, and colonizer from the Republic of Genoa in Italy. In 1492, he set sail across the Atlantic to find a western route to India, and inadvertently "discovered" the Bahamas. His trips across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world expanded European knowledge of the world and jump started a massive race by the European powers to colonize the western hemisphere.
