The Civil war started on April 12, 1861 and lasted for 4 years before it finally came to an end with a win for the Union on April 9, 1865. 3 reasons the war started includes: Attempts to Abolish Slavery (the North wanted it abolished, the south saw it as a right), Economic Divide Between the North and South (The industrial sector driven economy of the North was much better than the agriculture driven economy of the South) and the election of President Lincoln.
