How long did the US government think the war in Afghanistan was going to last?
There was no accurate prediction about the length of the war in Afghanistan, however a NATO-oriented force was relatively quickly established and unlike the attack on Iraq, the Afghanistan strike was done with a general agreement of other NATO forces. Currently, the withdrawal date is set for 2014. ChaCha on!

The War in Afghanistan began October 7, 2001 in response to the September 11 attacks. US forces forced the Taliban regime out in November 2001. Since then, US forces have concentrated eliminating resistance and insurgency groups operating in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
