How long does it take to die from HIV?
Without treatment it takes about 10 years on average for an HIV+ person to develop full-blown AIDS from the time of infection. Once a person has symptoms of AIDS the majority of patients die within 2 years. However, with treatment people can live many years longer but they do not know yet know how long because potent drug treatment regimens are relatively new.

About HIV
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency virus. It is a lentivirus (a member of the retrovirus family) that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition in humans in which the immune system begins to fail, leading to life-threatening opportunistic infections.
