There are many types of life support for many types of illnesses. How long a person survives off of it depends on what kind of life support they are on and why. Some examples of life support include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), feeding tubes, intravenous fluids, mechanical respiration, heart and lung bypass instruments, defibrillation equipment, and renal dialysis.
