About Android
Android is an operating system (OS) for smartphones. Android was purchased by Google in 2005, and is based on a modified version of the open source Linux kernel. The Android system was designed to compete with Apple iOS and has since passed iOS in terms of market share. The latest version is Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which adds features like multitasking, face-recognition, cloud storage, and 'Android Beam' (tap-to-share).

Software is anything that can be stored electronically. Software is something you can not touch. It is a program, an application, or some type of data that is stored onto a piece of Hardware. If you have a program you want to install onto your computer, then that is the software. The CD that the software comes on and the hard drive that you load it on is the hardware. Software is normally divided into two different categories: System Software and Application Software. System software includes the utilities that make the computer run, like the Operating System. The application software applies to the word processors, spreadsheets and other types of applications.
