Chromosomes Aneuploidy is an abnormal # of chromosomes. An extra or missing chromosome is a common cause of genetic disorders (birth defects). Monosomy is a form of aneuploidy with the presence of only 1 chromosome (instead of the typical 2 in humans) from a pair. Partial monosomy occurs when only a portion of the chromosome has 1 copy, while the rest has 2 copies. ChaCha on!
