The word 'holidays' comes from the original of 'holy days.' These days, there are holidays for just about everything, from the serious and religious to the fun and outrageous. About Federal Holidays
Federal holidays are days that Federal employees observe. On federal holidays, the U.S. Post Office and banks are closed. Schools and universities also are typically closed on federal holidays.
