How many hours a day should an athlete work out?

I'm a woman so its different but it all depends on what you do. Some days I take a spin class for an hour and then lift weights or do Pilates for another hour. Some days I run for 40 minutes and then take a yoga class. Spending 30-40 minutes at the gym per day is not going to get you where you want to be. Also note, spending 4 hours is just going to get you exhausted.
