About HDTV
HDTV is any television that supports high definition resolution. The highest currently available resolution is 1080p.
About 1080p
1080p is a specification of HDTVs referring to the resolution of the HDTV. Known also as "full HD", the term 1080p means that an HDTV displays 1,080 lines of horizontal resolution in progressive scan (simultaneously displaying every line of resolution, contrasted to 1080i, or "interlaced").
About 1080i
1080i is a high-definition video mode used for HDTVs. The i stands for interlaced which is different than p (progressive), and is the method of how pixels are scanned onto the screen. The 1080i resolution is widescreen and has a size of 1920x1080 pixels. Most television sets are only available in 720p or 1080p.
