Excluding the 19 hijackers, 2,974 people died in the attacks. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians. There were 343 firefighters and paramedics killed; 23 NYPD officers; 1,609 people lost a spouse or partner; and over 3,051 children lost a parent. Thank you for asking!
