The United States speculated that if one state in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect. The Vietnam War was a Cold War conflict between the South Vietnamese Viet Cong and their Communist allies and North Vietnam and the U.S.-led anti-communist allies. The Vietnam War began November 1st, 1955 and ended on April 30th, 1975 with the fall of Saigon, the South Vietnamese capitol.
