How might landforms affect weather and rainfall?

In so many ways, our weather is affected by the geography. Mountains affect the weather in this way: Mountains create what is called the orographic effect: Wind passing over a mountain lifts the air that cools down by the effect of a lesser pressure aloft and that causes moisture condensation to form clouds, rain or snow.
