If you try to lift something and you feel pulling or strain, then it is too heavy. You can absolutely lift and hold your toddler during pregnancy. Weight bearing exercises are okay as well but you have to pay attention to your body and do what is comfortable. Lifting weights is fine but you're not going to want to do any "dead lifting" or anything too jarring.
