About Abe Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He led the country during the Civil War, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation to order the freedom of all slaves in the United States. He was a gifted orator, and is still well-known for his Gettysburg Address, one of the most quoted speeches in history. He was the first US President to fall victim of assassination. Historians and scholars still rank Lincoln as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.
