How was the Sonoran dessert formed?
The Sonoran Desert was formed by the rain-shadow effect. Tall mountain ranges blocked clouds from reaching areas in the direction the wind is going. As the air moved over the mountains, it cools and moisture condenses. When that air reached the leeward side, it is dry because it has lost the majority of its moisture, resulting in a desert. ChaCha
