World War I World War I was a military conflict centered on Europe that began in the summer of 1914. The fighting ended in late 1918 in western Europe and by 1922 in eastern Europe. It involved most of the world's great powers in two opposing alliances. It was the 1st war to be fought on 3 continents, the 1st to use chlorine & mustard gas and the first to use tank battle.
