In first one hundred, one appears 20 times. It does the same for the 200s-400s. In the 100s it appears 120 times. The total=200. You divide 500 by 1, so it is 500. 500 times one is 500. According to a user on Yahoo Answers and using mathematical rules, the digit "1" should appear 195 times in a 500 page book. ChaCha!
