Is a heart attack caused by atherosclerosis?
It certainly can. Atherosclerosis is the hardening and narrowing of the arteries. This progressive process silently and slowly blocks arteries, putting blood flow at risk.Atherosclerosis is the usual cause of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease -- what together are called "cardiovascular disease." Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer in America.

About Heart Attack
Heart attacks are scary things, and can happen to just about anyone, any time. They are the result of a stoppage of blood flow to the heart causing blood cells to die. This usually happens because an artery has been blocked by plaque made up of lipids and white blood cells. If heart attacks are left untreated they can result in severe damage to the heart or death.
