About arbor day
Originating in 1872 in Nebraska, Arbor Day is a holiday set aside to promote tree planting and increase awareness of the importance of trees for our environment. In celebration of Arbor Day, individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. On the very first Arbor Day, which took place on April 10th, approximately one million trees were planted. There was also a grand parade followed by a speech by J. Sterling Morton, who founded the holiday.
About Earth Day
Earth Day, always held on April 22nd, is a national holiday created to celebrate the Earth and environment. The first Earth Day was in 1970, and was a response to the environmental crisis at the time, which included extremely polluted water and air. The Environmental Protection Agency was created the same year as a result of activism and widespread popular support for cleaning up the environment.
