Cooties are not a disease. Cootie is slang for lice or body lice. So yes, it is possible to have cooties.

Disease is when the body or mind are not well adjusted to the environment, characterized by pain, discomfort, and distress.

Lice are tiny wingless insects that feed on blood. There are three different types of lice, head lice, body lice and pubic lice. Treatment is required to get rid of lice, regardless of type. Over the counter remedies usually do the trick but, should be avoided if you have broken skin, scratches from itching, or are pregnant, then you should contact a doctor.
