About Gay Marriage
It is currently illegal in most states for homosexual men and women to get married. Those opposed to same-sex marriage usually cite two principal ideas: same-sex is against biblical principles; and that marriage has always been defined as being between a man and a woman and shouldn't be changed. Those in favor of same-sex marriage respond to the biblical argument by noting that there are hundreds of things that the bible specifically bars or condones which modern society ignores, like allowing slave ownership and banning the eating of shellfish, so why is the ban on gay marriage different. Concerning the idea that marriage has always been defined as being between a man and a woman, a response might be that definitions change all the time, and the definition of marriage should be changed to be more inclusive.
About Marriage
Marriage is a legal contract that acknowledges a social and (usually) sexual relationship. Marriage laws have changed significantly throughout the centuries and they continue to evolve.
