About Android
Android is an operating system (OS) for smartphones. Android was purchased by Google in 2005, and is based on a modified version of the open source Linux kernel. The Android system was designed to compete with Apple iOS and has since passed iOS in terms of market share. The latest version is Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which adds features like multitasking, face-recognition, cloud storage, and 'Android Beam' (tap-to-share).
