Is it against the law to commit suicide?
Views on suicide have varied widely, both historically and culturally. In the U.S. suicide has never been treated as a crime. By the early 1990s only two U.S. states still listed suicide as a crime, and these have since removed that classification. But suicide can still have legal ramifications for the deceased and assisted suicide is illegal in 47 states.
