About Chia Seeds
Chia seeds come from a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. While many Americans recognize the chia from the once trendy Chia Pets, the seeds can also be used for nutritious drinks and as a food source. Since the seeds yield 25-30% extractable oil, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and considered a superfood.
