When the band formed in 1960, Starr was a member of another Liverpool band, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. He became The Beatles' drummer in August 1962, taking the place of Pete Best.

About Ringo Starr
Richard Starkey, known by the stage name Ringo Starr, was born on July 7, 1940 in Liverpool, England and grew to stardom as the drummer for the Beatles. He was featured as the lead vocalist on the hit Beatles songs ''With a Little Help from My Friends'' and ''Yellow Submarine.'' After the Beatles broke up, Starr continued on as a solo artist, releasing 16 albums between 1970 and 2010.
