Salt water is a complex mixture of mainly inorganic anions and cations. Chloride ion is the predominant anion in seawater, present in concentrations in the range of 19,000 mg.L-1 (ppm) while sodium is the predominant cation, present in concentrations in the range of 10,000 mg.L-1 (ppm).
