According to "Wild Edibles of Missouri," by Jan Phillips, published by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation, the FDA has banned the sale of sassafrass tea because Safrole , which is found in the Sassafrass root, has been found to cause liver cancer in laboratory rats. It is said to thin the blood as well.
