Is the British army better than the American army?
No, however they are certainly comparable. As of February 2011 the British Army employs 106,550 Regulars, 3,880 Gurkhas[1] and 33,130 Territorials for a total combined component strength of 143,550 Soldiers. 549,015 The US Army has many more active personnel 563,688 Reserve and National Guard personnel. Due to it's size, the US Army is far more powerful than Britain's.
