Is the hypodermis alive?

Anonymous

Answer

The hypodermis is an underlayer of epithelial cells in arthropods and certain other invertebrates that secretes substances for the overlying cuticle or exoskeleton. The hypodermis is made up of cells which, in fact, are alive. It is mistakenly thought to be part of the skin but it actually attaches to the dermis "skin".
