Your pet turtle needs both UVB and UVA lights. Exposure to UVA is important for the activity level, feeding, and breeding in many species. Each species of turtle/tortoise may have different Vitamin D requirements.

Yes black light bad for a water turtle. Black lights emit a very dark purple beam and you have probably seen them being used in plants. These lights are NOT recommended for turtles.
