Is vanilla chocolate considered chocolate?
By definition, white (vanilla) chocolate is not actually chocolate. White chocolate contains cocoa butter, a product of the cocoa bean that is also used to produce chocolate. Cocoa butter does have a faint chocolate flavor & is combined with milk, sugar and often other flavoring ingredients such as vanilla in order to create the creamy confection known as white chocolate.

About Chocolate
Chocolate in its most popular form is a sweet treat made from the fermented seeds of the cacao tree. It has been produced in some form in Central and South America since at least 1100 BC. Mesoamerican people used to make drinks from chocolate that were both bitter and hot called xocolatl, a Nahuatl word meaning "bitter water."
