Mississippi river?
The Mississippi river was at the highest level seen since 1937, when it crested in Memphis at 14.7 feet above flood stage and caused a flood that killed 500 people and swamped 20 million acres of land on 5/5/11. As of 5/9/11, the Mississippi is in major flood stage and expected to continue rising. Residents are urged to quickly evacuate their homes and seek higher ground. Mississippi is a southern US state that was admitted to the Union on December 10, 1817 as the 20th state. The state is named after the Mississippi river which flows in the western part of the state. Jackson, which is the largest city (173,861- 2008 population est.), holds the capital seat.
