Should there always be a comma before a conjunction?
The basic rule says that when two complete sentences are joined by a conjunction (most often and, but, or or), place a comma before that conjunction. When a coordinating conjunction joins two words, phrases, or subordinate clauses, no comma should be placed before the conjunction.
