Kim Jong Il, the second hereditary leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), died December 17 2011. Born February 1942 to Kim Il Sung, the founder of North Korea, he is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter, including Kim Jong Un, the new leader of the country.

With the advent of the printing press, news was delivered via broadsheets, handbills, pamphlets, and newspapers. Radio and TV came next, and today, in the internet age, the 'news cycle' has been reduced from 24 hours to a few minutes. Politicians and governments are still figuring out how to deal with the rapidity with which they must react to the changing news environment.

Kim Jong il was the supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or North Korea, from 1994 until his death in 2011. Known for combining communism, unauthorized nuclear weapons program and general craziness, he is thought to have died from complications from cancer on December 17 2011.
About North Korea
North Korea was created after Korea split up at the end of the Korean War. It is a hereditary dictatorship, one of the most xenophobic countries in the world, and also one of the poorest. The country is in possession of nuclear weapons.
