Nicolaus Copernicus was born on 19 February 1473 and died on 24 May 1543. Nicolaus Copernicus dedicated his most famous work, On the Revolution of the Celestial Orbs, in which he gave an excellent account of heliocentricity, to Pope Paul III. Neither he nor Galileo were tortured because of their discoveries and beliefs. ChaCha!
