There is no indication that author J. K. Rowling was drunk when she wrote the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In an interview with the NBC Today Show she told people that she was trying to be "nebulous," and to write something "poetic". She wanted to make readers feel as if they were looking through a mist, unable to see who was or wasn't there. The original piece was much more clear, she edited it to make it more vague.
