Super Bowl XLIV had the NFC champion New Orleans Saints defeating the AFC champion Indianapolis Colts 31-17. This was the Saints' first Super Bowl victory since their creation in 1967.Taking place at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, the game's kickoff started at 6:30 p.m. EST (23:30 UTC) on February 7, 2010. In their three previous Super Bowl appearances, the Colts lost once in 1969 and won twice in 1971 and 2007. The Saints have never won previously.
The Colts went 333 passing and 99 rushing, while the Saints got 281/51 passing and rushing yards. Colts QB Peyton Manning went completed 31 of 45, a TD and interception. Manning did become the third QB in postseason history to surpass 5,000 postseason passing yards. Drew Brees, QB for the Saints, completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns to tie the Super Bowl record for completions on his way to winning the game's MVP honors.
