What does the fi stand for in wi-fi?

Rate This Answer

Short for "Wireless Fidelity." Wi-Fi refers to wireless networking technology that allows computers and other devices to communicate over a wireless signal. It describes standards adopted by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which trademarked the name "Wi-Fi".

WLAN/Wireless Local Area Network technology is a data radio frequency. Wi-Fi is a trademark. Like "Tivo" is to DVR.
